A Guide to Making the Perfect Apple Streusel Cake

Yesterday, while they were playing, pedaling and screaming their lungs out, I started to bake in the sweltering weather, I quickly took pictures of the final result before they burst in with the feeling of hunger.

I had red apples with an unusual tart flavor in the refrigerator for more than 2 weeks. Obviously, they were not takers. Put them to good use by preparing an apple Streusel cake recipe bookmarked on Sheba’s lovely blog. Take a look at her superb pastries. I made some changes to the original recipe and I am satisfied with the result. Fragrant with cinnamon, tender, perfectly laced with apples and not too sweet a cake. The boys were more than happy to devour the cake (and the muffins) with iced cocoa.

Streusel Cake Recipe with Apples

Preparation: 15 minutes, Cooking: 1 hour


  •  1/4 cups all-purpose flour/maida
  • pinch of salt
  •  1/2 teaspoon of pwd cooking
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon pwd
  • 4 tablespoons of low-fat milk
  • 1 large apple (pie), peeled, cored and sliced

For the filling:

  • 1/4 cup maida
  • 2 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp pwd cinnamon

1. Preheat the oven to 175 C. Grease and flour a round mold. Prepare the filling by mixing the brown sugar, cinnamon pwd and maida well. Cut the butter into this mixture with the help of a fork until it appears crumbly. You can also add a couple of tablespoons of chopped walnuts. Guard aside.

2. Sift maida, cook the pwd and salt in a bowl.

3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Use a hand blender to obtain a smooth and creamy mixture. Add the overcome eggs and mix well. Add the pwd cinnamon and mix.

4. Stir in the maida mixture little by little, alternating with the milk. Do not beat too much, just fold the dry one until there is no trace of flour.

5. Pour the dough into the greased and floured mold. Smooth the top with a spatula. Arrange the apple slices on top. Sprinkle the streusel filling generously. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Place on a wire rack to cool, slice and serve at room temperature.
For the muffins ~ Place a tablespoon of cake batter in a muffin liner. Top with peeled and chopped apples, sprinkle with filling and bake for 25-27 minutes at 175 C.
